A dead sure way to provoke passenger annoyance
On December 2nd my flight to Dublin was delayed for more than six hours. So I had the chance to experience Barcelona Airport's Terminal 2 and its facilities in detail. The result of this involuntary self-experiment is the realization that nowadays there is one simple thing that many passengers miss once they need to spend more than two hours in a passenger terminal: electrical power supply. How come airports have shiny glass walls and impressive building structures to impress but do not meet one of the basic needs of a modern passenger - to maintain their connectivity with the world. In the non-Schengen area of Barcelona's Terminal 2 there is not one single electrical socket designated for passengers. In some airports one can find power supplies for the cleaning staff that can be used while sitting on the floor. But not so in Barcelona. In the end some passengers used the electrical power of a closed restaurant and one even put his laptop on the washing basin in the mens bathroom. So here's my big request for the airport planners out there:
Please think of the basic needs of us passengers while planning and provide us with power outlets close to the seating or place them inside restaurants or bars - this may even have the nice side-effect to increase non-aviation revenues. What do you think? Which airports are doing a great job in providing their passengers with electricity while they're waiting? passenger using the power outlet in the men's bathroom for his laptop passenger using the power outlet of a closed restaurant
